New York Giants WIN 23-16 at Home Against The Las Vegas Raiders

HAPPY VICTORY MONDAY! The New York Giants are now 3-6 on the season going into the buy week and we have a completely different team over the last 3 weeks. This defense is FINALLY playing the ball we were expecting them to be playing since week one. This defensive front is getting consistent pressure, allowing the secondary to get aggressive and force some turnovers. The run defense has been playing very good football when Danny Shelton is not in the game. Xavier McKinney had a two interception day taking one to the house. McKinney just seemed more confident out there reading plays and attacking the ball over the last few games and today was where it showed up in the box score.

I am going to say something. Quincey Roche and Azeez Ojulari are already better than Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximenes. AND They have the potential to be the next edge rushers for The New York Giants. Carter and Ximenes have done nothing all year while Roche just had a GREAT game having the game-winning play sacking Derek Carr and forcing a fumble that the Giants were able to jump on. There is no reason Roche and Ojulari aren’t starting and playing a large bulk of the game in Tampa in two weeks.

Okay, let’s talk about the offense. This offensive line is the worst thing I have ever seen. Devante Booker ran the ball very well behind the line that might as well have been 5 tackling dummies. There have been multiple plays where Billy Price or Skura got bull-rushed into him before he even had the ball. This offense in the RedZone just completely forgets how to play football. There was 1 play attempted over 15 yards and it was a 30 yard touchdown. Daniel Jones completed 75% of his passes and hardly went over 100 yards. On the first drive of the game, The Giants had a good mix of run and pass on first game and the remainder of the game, they went back to the “We are going to run on every first down” mentality. This set the Giants up with second and long over and over again.

I still don’t understand why we NEVER go for it on 4th down in the RedZone. Toney and Golladay had a combined 3 targets resulting in 3 catches for 37 yards. Toney had more QB snaps (2) than targets (1). UNEXCEPTIONABLE. You have to get creative and get the ball in his hands every week. You have to have more plays throwing the ball to Golladay for a contested catch. I understand the line is BAD, but you gotta put your quarterback in position to make plays and win games. When The Giants had the ball with 3 minutes to go, they already settled for a field goal once they got into range. Running the ball to the outside with Elijah Penny is the wrong call regardless of the time of the game, but second and long makes it worse.

I fully expect that to be Jason Garrett’s last game as The Giants Offensive Coordinator. Going into the buy week, I expect all these minds they added to the staff to install some of their stuff into the offense and Freddie Kitchens will begin calling the plays and we will begin getting a bit more explosive plays and watching Danny do Danny things. Andrew Thomas coming back and being able to have Nate Solder not see the field will most definitely help this offense be able to generate more plays.
