The Saga is over. Pete is where he belongs in Queens. I have seen this coming for a while now – in fact I am writing this blog on January 29th directly after writing the below tweet (adding this in right before publishing – I am SHOCKED it took this long). It was just a matter of time once no one blew him out of the water with an offer.

Yes – WordPress still makes it impossible to imbed tweets. Words can not express how annoying it is.
Anyway, it is crazy predictable that Pete will sign a 3-year deal at max with opt outs. I am willing to bet the AAV is a little higher than what The Mets originally wanted to give him, but after the fans asking for him and other players publicly saying they want Pete back – they will just give him that extra couple million. This lineup also will feel like it is missing something without Pete’s power, and there isn’t really anywhere to get it outside of a big splash trade. It just made too much sense for The Mets after seeing how Pete’s market evolved.
It also makes absolutely no sense for Pete to sign a small deal somewhere else. Pete is loved by Met fans and players in the locker room. Pete is 26 Home Runs away from becoming the Home Run King of Queens. Once he inevitably gets to that number, he will be Met royalty – even if he has no rings. If Pete plays the final years of his career somewhere else, he will just be another good player that played for that franchise.
This is insanely predictable and I can’t believe it isn’t done yet. It is only a matter of time before Pete tells Boras to fuck off and signs a deal with The Mets.
I want Pete back, but I also do not want him on a 6 or 7 year deal. I can see a 1-year opt out to give The Mets the chance to evaluate Vlad Jrs market next year and see if there is potential for him to come to queens – that’d be fucking sick. The Mets also have Clifford who will be ready to come up and be a power bat first basemen in a couple of years, so maybe we can even just give him some more time with Pete on a multi-year deal without opt outs. I will never bank on a prospect – 27 years as a Met fan have taught me that lesson the hard way.
I am very happy that Pete is back. I love me a good Petey fuckbomb and tweeting the Polar Bear dancing GIF after he hits a home run. Welcome back Pete. I hope you get a standing ovation in o=your first plate appearance of the year.
