Maybe Let’s Stop Dropping Footballs As We Cross The Goal Line

During the Thursday Night game, that I was unable to sit down an watch due to my shift at The Outback, Malachi Corley scored his first NFL touchdown. Which was called back. Because he dropped the ball before he crossed the goal line.

Coming just 1 week after someone else doing this. Malachi Corley decided it was his time to shine. This makes absolutely no sense to attempt for a million reasons. The biggest one being that it was his FIRST NFL TOUCHDOWN. How do you not hold that ball until you go to sleep tonight?! That is the ball that you will have framed with “First NFL Touchdown” written on it. He tossed it to the side like it was a piece of toilet paper.

The next crazy part is the fact that no one recovered it. There are 10 other players on the field for The Jets. Not 1 said, “Hey, let me pick this up just in case he didn’t get in.” The ball was recovered by no one and sat in the end zone. The result of the play? Touchback. Texans ball. So not only did this absolutely MORONIC move take 6 points off the board (can’t say 7 with Greg The Leg), but it gave the ball to the other team.

It is truly astonishing that in the year 2024 this is still done. Even more astonishing that it is done as frequently as it is. This is not a once/year occurrence. I feel like there is one of these plays every few weeks. Crazy thought: If you want to drop the ball, just wait until you have taken 2 full steps into the end zone. Leave 0 room for error.

This dude went on to not score his first NFL touchdown, but probably found himself sitting on the bench a lot more. Which will be a new norm for this season.
