I know. I know. I know. Hard Knocks was 4 days ago. I am late as fuck. But I GOTS to write about it!
As I sit here on my lunch break on a slow Friday in the summer for a corporate software sales job, I am trying to figure out which direction I should go with this. Should I explain why they were not trading up for Joe Alt? Na. Too easy. Should I talk about how a deal with Saquon was never going to get done? Na. Also too easy.
I am going to talk about Brandon Brown and how impressive he has been.
Brandon Brown has consistently been the voice of reason within the building. This absolutely TERRIFIES me about the potential that he will be the GM for another team shortly. There was a point where a scout said there was a lot to Nabers personality and he will let everyone know that he is upset if he does not get the ball. Brown said something along the lines of “Name me a dominant player at that position (WR) that was a choir boy, Nabers gives us something we simply do not have.”
In episode 1, there was a conversation – that I 100% believe was staged for the cameras in case they didn’t get a QB. Looks like Schoen and Numb Nuts Timmy are talking Brandon Brown into keeping Jones around.
There were even conversations Brandon Brown had talking about having Wilkins vs Burnes. Which would I personally rather have? I am not sure. I like the idea of two dynamic edge rushers. But while Schoen talks about the trade, Brown plays that devils advocate of “You’ll have to also give up picks on top of paying Burnes.” These are the kinds of things that keep Schoens head level and let him fully think about every decision and everything that goes into them.
Brandon Brown was a finalist for The Chargers GM search this year and he will likely get even more interviews next year – especially with how good he is coming out of the documentary. I do not know if Giants Land knows just how big of a loss he will be with how much input he has on every single decision.
