The annual party that The PGA throws at the 16th hole of TPC Scottsdale was this weekend and it got slightly out of hand. Yes, they chose the same weekend as The Super Bowl, so I did not watch the finish of the tournament. Horrible planning. The vibes were higher than ever this year. The party spread to a few other areas of the course and OH BOY do we have some great videos coming out of it.
I am going to throw my tin foil hat on and say this was staged by The PGA because there was also a LIV event going on and LIV is known for being the fun tour. The PGA said “hold my beer. I’m going to invite every frat in the country to this tournament.”
Everything started with some absolute quality videos of people being very drunk. The classic falling over, doing stupid stuff, and pissing in a seat in the middle of a room. Classic, normal stuff. Even the shot tracer was off a few times, Dan Rappaport suspects the person doing that was also drunk.
The course stopped serving alcohol and anyone who knows Blue Mountain State knows that is a recipe for disaster. People were drunk enough to be stupid, but not drunk enough to pass out. We started seeing streakers, snow angles in sand traps and fights. As much as I laughed at watching this shit on the internet, The PGA and the golfers were NOT fans of this AT ALL. Which I found to be even funnier.
This tournament was an absolute disaster and I have never had so much fun watching something go so poorly. I put a lot of tweets in this blog, and I had to cut out many more that I had bookmarked. I am retired from having this kind of a day, but I have definitely had my fair share of days that begin with drinking before the sun comes up and by 2 pm being waaaay too intoxicated to be in public. So I totally relate.
I have never been to a golf tournament, so I can’t say I fully understand the happenings at them. But I do know there are “quiet” signs all over the place. Golf is known for being snobby and having unwritten rules. Seeing the fraternities of America wipe their ass with these rules and seeing the golfers get wildly upset about it will go down as one of the greatest moments in golf history. Good thing there are no tournaments in Philadelphia, those scumbags would heckle some of these golfers into retirement.
Make no mistake, I love golfing and I do like all the dumb unwritten rules. But, after The PGA fans have been trashing LIV for playing music on the course just for them to throw a party that resembles an Alabama-Georgia Football Tailgate was my favorite thing that happened this weekend.
