What a TERRIBLE idea by FIFA. MetLife did such a bad job hosting The Super Bowl that The NFL essentially said it was never going back. The infrastructure around the stadium is horrible. It’s nearly impossible to get in and out of the parking lots. Oh .. and there’s no place that can claim as many ACLs or achilles tears on the planet.
MetLife is the least appealing stadium that has been built this century. The only positive is that it can seat more people than any other stadium. The three finalists were SoFi, AT&T and MetLife – how in the WORLD do you walk away choosing MetLife? Hopefully that mall that keeps saying they’re close to bankruptcy stays open long enough, so people will have something to do around the stadium!
There is a silver lining. FIFA could make MetLife put grass down. I saw some whispers on the Twitterverse that FIFA requires a grass playing surface. If this is true – WHAT A WIN for MetLife. We will finally get a field that the players want and what the fans have been calling for. Players hate turf. They are very open about how much longer recovery times are. On Bussin With The Boys with Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, Compton even said he’s made free agent decisions later in his career based on grass vs turf because his ankles and knees couldn’t take playing more than half the games on turf.
It is insane with how often players say things like this that the NFL even allows turf fields for open stadiums.
If FIFA does not require a grass field .. The turf is going to claim the ACL of one of these superstar soccer players and the entire world will hate us. You think things are tense now? Wait until one of these European countries lose one of their best soccer players. The nukes will be launched right at MetLife as soon as the rest of the team gets out of the swamp.
