The New York Giants have lost their ninth game of the season which effectively knocked them out of the playoffs. So what does that mean? The Top 5 pick is BACK!
The last few games were fun. But now we are back to reality and Giants twitter is more toxic than ever. Giants Twitter is at a place where Justin Penik is posting video responses to people. I was going to basically write everything he said, so let me make my life easier and just post the video:
We had young guys show improvement. We had Brian Daboll showing why he won coach of the year last year. People are acting like because we are not going to be picking second we will not be able to draft a quarterback. There are like six quarterbacks in this draft who are very good – it’s very likely we can leave the first round with one.
I am a believer that you can not create a culture of winning by having terrible records every year. You want your coaches to coach hard and you want your players to play hard on every snap; regardless of the score or the record. It is disrespectful to everyone who put together the season to throw in the towel and tank for over two months. Daboll would’ve been fired, and we would’ve had the fourth straight coach not make it to year 3. Boarder-line impossible to bring in a quality coach if we did that.
I tweeted this after the game against the Packers and it stays true. We had young guys show progression, we had good game-plans on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, and we had a fun month rooting for an Italian kid from Jersey. Hyatt and Robinson showed the players they can be in functional offenses. Now this off-season we know what we can get out of them and they will have the confidence to build on some of those games. They showed that if we are able to get an average line, a good quarterback and add that X-Factor receiver for them, we can have a top-tier offense.
No one truly thought DeVito was going to be the future. It was just fun and it was very important for the team and the culture in the building. I understand why people wanted The Giants to lose and I won’t tell those fans they shouldn’t be rooting against The Giants. I will tell those people that there is more to it than drafting a quarterback and the world isn’t going to end because Tommy DeVito gave us a fun month.
I am someone who will let the season play out and worry about draft position when the season ends. Play these last 3 games, figure out your position and build that big board. I trust how Schoen and Daboll will evaluate the quarterback talent in this draft. More importantly, I trust Daboll ability to develop who they bring in to become a top quarterback in the NFL.
