Nothing Matters If You Can’t Block

6 seasons ago The New York Giants were going into the season with tons of weapons (OBJ, Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram), very talented defense and high expectations coming off a winning season and a playoff appearance. That 2017-2018 season was a complete flop because the offensive line was so bad. Here we are 6 seasons later in the exact same spot.

The Giants offensive line might as well be 5 tackling dummies when Thomas is out and Thomas and 4 tackling dummies when he is playing. The line is not bad for a lack of trying. The Giants have drafted 6 different linemen in the top 100, made multiple trades for highly drafted players and brought in free agents – most notably Nate Solder who signed the highest deal of All-Time for an offensive lineman. Andrew Thomas is the only one who has panned out – I have a lot of faith that JMS will also.

If the guard position was not also a wild liability on this offensive line, I would say to give Neal more time at tackle to figure it out. He has all the same issues as day 1 and he just does not look athletic enough at all to play tackle in the NFL. Let Ezeudu battle it out for that RT spot and move Neal to RG. I do not care where Neal was drafted or what he was drafted to do – he’s absolutely terrible. All we needed was an average tackle and he couldn’t do that.

The Giants could not run an actual offense in 2 of their 3 games because the offensive line is THAT bad. All 5 guys last night did not look like they even belonged in the NFL. The Giants added a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but nothing matters until they can put an average line onto the field. The defense missing 2 tackles per play also is terrible, but if you simply do not have an offense there’s no chance you will win.

This coaching staff and Joe Schoen will have to get creative to figure out how they can let Danny Dime and give him time to let him play free and control the offense.
