Gronk To Join The Giants?

Ok. This was kind of click-bait. buuuuut after hearing this I did have to do some digging.

Gronk was asked in an interview which head coach had the best chance to get him out of retirement. His response: Brian Daboll. This shocked me to be completely honest. Gronk is 34 and has not played football in 2 years. Also – The Giants? Why The Giants?

Brian Daboll was his tight ends coach in New England from 2013-2016. In that time, Gronk was back-to-back First Team All-Pro and won the Comeback Player of The Year in 2014. If this is to be a real thought – which is doubtful listening to how he answered the question – how would he fit into the offense? Easy. He would play less than 50% of the snaps with Waller also on the team and be a major threat every-time he steps on the field. When Gronk was in Tampa he was a shell of the player that he was, but they really only used him to his full ability in the playoffs and big games – that is essentially exactly what he would be for us.

This should say a lot about who Brian Daboll is as a coach for Gronk to single only him out as the coach that could bring him back. Not the Bill Belichick-Bill O’Brien combination that he won multiple Super Bowls with. Not Josh McDaniels who was his Offensive Coordinator in multiple Super Bowls. He chose a tight ends coach who was with him during 2 injuries and 2 of his best seasons as a pro.

As us Giant fans have discovered, Brian Daboll is a great coach. For the greatest Tight End of All-Time and first ballot HOFer lock Rob Gronkowski to single him out as the only coach that could get him back on the field for another season is absolute insanity. This makes me even more excited to see what this season will look like for Darren Waller. Looking at what Gronk has done with Brian Daboll – we will be in for a very pleasant surprise with Darren Waller.
