Tom Brady has once again retired. Brady has accomplished two separate Hall Of Fame Careers in his time playing in the NFL. Brady will be a player that will be talked about until the end of time. With all this being said, Brady deserves to have some type of recognition around the league.
Retiring 12 from every team? I think that is too far. He did not reinvent the game or change how it is played in any way. He was just extremely good at it and no one ever has and likely ever will win as much as he has. My thinking is naming a trophy after him – first thing I thought was the MVP trophy. The problem in he did not win a crazy amount of MVPs, so the next thing I thought was the Super Bowl MVP Trophy.
Brady won 5 Super Bowl MVPs in his 7 Super Bowl Victories and 10 Super Bowl appearances – obviously no one has as many of any of these as Brady. As much as we were all thinking “Tom Brady is in The Super Bowl again” very annoyed about it – unless he saw the NFC Beast in the big game. He was the greatest winner in NFL history and that is essentially what the Super Bowl MVP Award represents. The most important player – in the most important game of the season.
Throughout sports, trophies get named after people all the time. The award itself is never changed – but the trophy is named after a player. The Vince Lombardi Trophy – The Michael Jordan Trophy – The Jules Rimet Trophy and many more.
Do I think The NFL will do this? No. I don’t think Rodger Goodell would put Tom Brady’s name on anything. Goodell has consistently given Brady tough punishments for things he did not have solid evidence for. Goodell has clearly had a vendetta against Tom Brady for seemingly no reason at all.
Brady does deserve to have his name on something until the end of time after the way he dominated The NFL for so long. The Super Bowl MVP simply makes the most sense with how he is associated with The Super Bowl. No one will come close to his five Super Bowl MVP record for a very-very long time.
