$35Million/Year Is A Middle Of The Pack QB Contract.

The NFL season is over and the biggest topic of conversation on Giants Twitter is the same as what it has been since the season ended last year – Will Jones be back? What will his contract look like?

Let me answer the first question – Yes. He’ll be back. Here is what Joe Schoen had to say. basically said he’ll be back.

So now, how much should he get? The franchise tag is $32.4Million. I think there is a chance Jones would play on a tag because they are going to bring in some weapons and his number should be significantly better next season. This would be a gamble on himself to get a contract in that $45Million range. I do think Schoen will want to have a very incentive based contract though to keep that guaranteed number down as much as possible.

Why do I think Jones is a $35Million/Year QB. I will drop a picture below of the top 10 QB earners in the NFL.

Look at that. All of the top 10 are above 35/year. I know what you’re saying, “Is Jones a top 10QB?” First, I think he proves next year that he is and I do think there is a good argument that he is in the top 10. Look at the names there – there’s a couple who will be getting paid over that 45 number in the next 2 years. Burrow, Herbert, Hurts and Lamar. This would move a 35/year contract down to the 15th spot – The middle of the pack. Daniel is ABSOLUTELY a top 15 QB and should be paid like one. So yes, he’s going to get paid like a middle of the pack quarterback and yes that is in the ballpark of 35/year.

These numbers are obviously not guaranteed numbers and if Jones agrees to a 3-4 year contract (which I think he will try to keep it to 2), I expect it to be very heavily incentive based after that second season.

I will leave you with this take from Jordan Raanan who explains how his agent will look at this negotiation.
