It was a nice few hours today for Giants fans as Sterling Shepard has returned from his achilles tear after 9 months. I had him chalked in for a week 4 return and starting the season on the PUP. VERY impressive from Shepard and a massive addition to the active roster for The Giants.
This was a short lived celebration as Collin Johnson went down a few hours later with a bad-looking injury. The Giants have now confirmed that it was a torn achilles. Someone had to have made some dark arts trade with Sterling Shepards achilles for a mystery receiver.
Yes. This sucks. I wrote a blog a few days ago talking about how he is competing for play-time. He has been a standout in the preseason games being a reliable target for Giants quarterbacks with 10 receptions and 123 yards in just 2 games. This could have been a big season for him to break out. Silver lining is he will be back to have a full camp and get after it next season.
I have seen a ton of Giants fans upset that Johnson has gone down. I have decided to look at the positives: We have in fact had all of our receivers healthy for a few hours. To me, that is some serious progress. As fans, we have to find the positives when we can since they come so seldom. Yes, I just used Seldom. Let’s now make too big of a deal about it. Never even took the SATs. Anyway, the team is still getting hurt at every chance that can and we may want to consider putting those concussion helmet cover things on every part of every player. But it seems to be getting less frequent than what we are accustomed to.
