The New York Football Giants have completed their first week of camp, and everyone is acting completely rational. No one is overreacting about anyones play and everyone is just happy that the Giants are back. LOL Just Kidding.
Pat Leonard is off to a hot start with this regime asking multiple questions where he has been laughed at. He started by asking Kadarius Toney how he felt when The Giants were shopping them – even though Joe Schoen said “we are not shopping Kadarius Toney” to Leonards face a couple months ago. Toney simply laughed and basically said that he knew he wasn’t being shopped. He handled this situation like a pro and it should be talked about more.
Leonard later decides to ask Daboll how much tolerance he has for “inefficiency” and Daboll was clearly not appreciative of that question. Daboll gave the typical “A coach needs to have his players prepared” answer. That was not good enough for Pat so Daboll finally says “it is day 3 and we don’t even have any pads on”. Leonard was truthfully just trying to corner these two into an answer that he wanted for an article he probably already wrote. How did this man get a journalist degree? No idea. But it seems like he’s on thin ice with this current regime and I hope they strip his Press Pass.
These two instances weren’t even the worst thing he did. He sent The Giants fanbase into a frenzy and already got them at each others throats over the “Is Daniel Jones the guy?” conversation with this BS article.
This article says that Jones had a bad day in practice on day 3, so they should look for another quarterback. Yes, I understand the argument that he’s had the previous three years as well and has not done well outside of his rookie season. Here’s the thing – this regime has already committed to giving Jones this season and has brought in Tyrod Taylor as the backup and potential stop-gap for next season. So no, they aren’t trading for Jimmy G. If they bring in Jimmy on a small 1 or 2 year deal next year, I wouldn’t hate it – but that defeats the purpose of giving Tyrod 7million next season.
Jones being the quarterback also gives this regime a mulligan year in a sense. If he flops and the teams plays poorly, the perception will be “okay they need to find their quarterback”. Not “here we go again”. I see no reason why they wouldn’t give him a true 17 game test to see if they want to move forward with him.
The pads come on today, and it is wet and gross out. Great day to get better and to start getting an actual assessment on who may have a big camp and who may slide down the roster. Jones will be QB1 until at least midway through the season and he has to really shit the bed to fall behind Taylor in my eyes.
