The Mets lineup came out to a hot start , but now that the bats have seemed to cool down it is time to seriously look at who we will look for to give this lineup a boost. So who is out there for the Metsies to go grab? The obvious answer would be Josh Bell. Josh bell is hitting over 300 with 12 home runs. Bell is only on a 1 year deal, but he will be drawing a lot of attention. Throw on-top of it that The Nationals are a rival and we will have to give up a high-level prospect. Bell would jump in and replace Dom Smith. If Smith is not involved in the trade, I would expect Dom to be moved for another arm for the bullpen.
Another option – that I view as the more realistic option is Trey Mancini. He would be getting a lesser haul Mancini is hitting 280 with 7 long balls. Mancini will be able to fill in for Dom Smith or JD Davis just like Josh Bell. Mancini’s contract has a mutual opt-out for next year, so he would be a short term commitment. I do not expect The Mets to have to give up a high level prospect. But I do envision them to give up either JD Davis or Dom Smith.
Basically, They have to find 1 player to do what Dom and JD Davis do, but better. A true DH. Mancini or Bell would be the best options here and they should use Dom and JD in trades to get one of these two AND a bullpen arm. When the rosters expand, they may be able to pull up Alvarez or Vientos as an extra bench player. If the lineup going into the stretch is below, we could be looking at a serious powerhouse moving forward:
CF: Nimmo
RF: Marte
SS: Lindor
1B: Alonso
DH: Josh Bell/Trey Mancini
2B: McNiel
LF: Canha
3B: Escobar
C: McCann
Bench: Alvarez – Jankowski – Guillorme – Nido – Plummer/Lee
(I put McCann as the starter because I envision him getting the majority or starts over Alvarez/Vientos and Alvarez would be used mostly to DH/Pinch hit.)
