Shows Need To Stop Normalizing High Schoolers Solving Actual Murders

The rest of Stranger Things Season 4 has been released and as amazing as this show is – can we stop having high-schoolers and middle-schoolers solving actual murders? My fiance has been making me watch a lot of Riverdale and something in common with these shows is the high school news paper has WAY too much pull in their town. I know Nancy is a legit reporter now, but when she was in high school she used her pull from the school paper. It also makes NO sense that they do not tell the police what is going on. Do the police not know what happened from the first few seasons? They would have to believe these kids after seeing the mind-slayer in the mall several months before.

Riverdale does take this to an entirely different level where they are writing about brutal murders and town conspiracies in the school newspaper. At a point they have a competent principle who is basically like “fuck off with this article. Write about the football team or something normal for a 16 year old. You are risking your life for this article that belongs no where near a school.” The town sheriff at a point is a convicted felon and leader of a fucking gang. This guy just lets these children walk around active crime scenes and investigate. Crazy thought: Let your fucking police force do the police work.

I will hop off my soapbox now. I hate putting Stranger Things and Riverdale in the same boat, because Stranger Things is incredible and Riverdale is just fucking stupid. But having children hunting down these literal monsters is WILD.
