It is time to say it one more time. It is the start of a New Era for the New York Football Giants. Hopefully we will hire a good Head Coach and that will be the last time we say it for a while. This is a happy day for Giants fans, we are allowed to be happy today! Schoen was a top GM candidate across the league and has been a part of three different impressive rebuilds in the NFL. Schoens resume comes with a ton of scouting experience which his connection from his time doing that should help him revamp this scouting department that John Mara wanted this General Manager to do.

So lets talk a bit about his resume. He has been involved in The NFL for 20 years and there will be a common trend around these teams. He started in Carolina in 2001 when they finished 1-15. I don’t think I need to talk about how that Panthers team looked at the end of his tenure in 2007, they kicked the shit out of us in the Wildcard round two seasons because they drafted well and built up a good roster. He then went to Miami where that team was 1-15 as well and was 10-6 when he left. In Miami he became one of the top scouting names and was able to get the job in Buffalo as the assistant GM.
In the 4 years in Buffalo, he was a big factor in building up a young-talented team headed by Josh Allen that is currently the divisional round of the playoffs and have won The AFC East in back to back seasons. The Buffalo Bills have made the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years. One of the top Head Coaching candidates around the league is Daboll who is currently the Offensive Coordinator in Buffalo. Daboll is personally my favorite for this Head Coaching job and I could make another entire post about the success he has had.
One thing is clear about this hire. John Mara is finally just going to let Schoen do his job. He knows how to evaluate players and drafts high potential players well. The staffs that Schoen has been a part of have not signed many players to crazy contracts and stuck with the players they bring in via the draft and keeping them around. This will not be a quick fix, but in 2-3 years it is safe to assume this team will be competitive. We are allowed to be excited about this and we can see the clear skys ahead. They may be pretty far away, but we can see them.
