Bring Pat Shurmur Back To New York If Denver Cleans House?

I know. This guy was a BAD head coach. BUT he is still a very good offensive mind and has the potential to be a great Offensive Coordinator. I will say this is assuming The Giants keep Judge and Jones, which at this time I feel is extremely likely. It is definitely assumed Jason Garrett will be gone regardless of what happens the rest of the year – if he even makes it to the end of the season.

Daniel Jones played very well under Pat Shurmur in 2019. In 12 games, he has 3,027 yards and 24 TDs. Yes, this was the year he turned the ball over a billion times. DJ has improved tremendously with the turnovers and with more talent on the offense and what I would view as a slightly improved offensive line – which I will assume will be improved even more in the draft. Shurmur likes taking those shots down the field and with a Daniel Jones who is 700% more fundamentally sound, he would be a great option for this team to look at.

Daniel Jones already spending a year in Shurmurs scheme would give him the ability to already know most of the language and the playbook to an extent. Shurmur does a very good job of putting his players in position to use their strengths. Darius Slayton is really just a guy who can beat you over the top – preferable down the middle on a deep post. We saw this be a major part of the playbook in 2019, and since the start of 2020 it really feels like this has only been called 3 or 4 times.

The teams under Shurmur scored more points and produced a significantly more explosive offense. If you put this Daniel Jones in that offense from 2019, I will say that he would be a top 5 QB in the league. Shurmur let him ball out. In the last 2 years, he learned to protect the ball and manipulate the pocket. Let the kid ball out and in 17 games, he will hit 4,500 yards, 40 total touchdowns and keep that turnover number to under 10 total on the season. Combine that with the defense being an average defense (which is still under-performing their potential) The Giants could and SHOULD be a playoff team.
