What Five Names Will Get Cut On The 8/24 Deadline

Going into camp Joe Judge and Dave Gettleman had to have assumed making these cuts to get the roster down to 53 would be incredibly difficult. Tomorrow does not feel like it will be one of those days. I think the first four names, will not be difficult names to write down.

Name Number 1: Sam Beal Sam Beal has spent many season with The Giants and has had some very meaningful snaps. Beal never improved and had an absolutely terrible performance against Cleveland on Sunday. He can’t set the edge on run plays, can’t cover in the pass game. Not good. Easy Cut.

Name Number 2: Devante Downs Just like Beal, Downs has had some quality time in regular season games with The New York Giants last year. He is most definitely under Martinez and Crowder. With the little amount of time Reggie Ragland has played this preseason, I assume he has already solidified himself a spot on this roster. That would leave Downs needing to beat out Coughlin for that 4th ILB spot and that is not even a close battle. Coughlin has shown great instincts in the run game, a very good ability to get after the quarterback. He just needs to improve on his pass defense to see a good quantity of regular season snaps. So, Downs will get the cut when Judge makes his final decision

Name Number 3: Chris Johnson Johnson is a DB from Northern Iowa who played a couple years in Houston with The Texans. Dude stinks. Not much else. Very crowded and talented DB room, Chris Johnson will go.

Name Number 4: Madre Harper Harper was an undrafted free agent who was signed by the Raiders last season. Again, crowded DB room, Harper isn’t very good, not very high potential. He may be a good practice squad guy.

Name Number 5: Alex Bachman Okay, this name could be a lot of different people. So why Bachman? Looking at the receiver room, it looks like Ross has already earned himself a roster spot along with the obvious ones. (Kenny Golladay, Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard and Kadarius Toney). This will leave one – MAYBE two more roster spots for wide outs and that race is very clearly between Pettis, Sills and Willis. Pettis, Board and Mack have been utilized in special teams last year, so they all have a bit better of an argument to earn a spot on this team over Bachman who would only play wide out in a room with a ton of talent. I do not expect Bachman to even be competing for a spot anywhere on this team and that is why I selected him as the fifth name that will be called to do the walk of shame out of the building before practice on Tuesday 8/24.
