Trade deadline is coming up and The Mets have the best odds from Vegas for two of the biggest names on the block! Don’t get your hopes up Mets fans. I highly doubt the Mets will be able to get both of these guys. Both will come at a high price tag for a player who will be a met for a couple Months. With that being said, if the Mets do get both of these guys, they turn into a serious World Series Contender. If I will be truthful though I do not want the Mets to trade for either one. They would more than likely have to give up one of the top prospects and wouldn’t be favorites to win. JD Davis has played pretty well at third base since coming off the IL, not to mention Guillorme has been absolutely killing it in the limited time he has had in the last couple years.
Yes, I am making an argument for the Mets to not go after a bat. Pete is on an absolute TEAR right now, McNeil is coming around, Dom is Dom, Nimmo is Nimmo. And we have a deep bench. The lineup has been very good, the only weak spots are only McCann and Conforto right now. Both are not guys who would be replaced by whoever we trade for. So no, I don’t want the Mets to trade for a bat.
The Mets 100% do need at least one more arm. Scherzer would be AMAZING to add to the rotation. The rotation down the stretch could be Jake-Scherzer-Stro-Walker-Carrasco, we would VERY rarely lose baseball games. Scherzer is most definitely a pipe dream. The Mets would be forced to give one of the big name prospects who will inevitably become a future Hall Of Famer for the Nats. It would turn the season into a World Series or Bust season and I truthfully don’t think the team has the experience to win it all. And of course, The Padres are one of the best teams to be put onto a field. Let’s be real. The Mets have the peices in place to build an absolute dynasty. I do not want them to sell out now for 1 title.
Who do I want The Mets to go for? Andrew Chafin. Chafin currently has a 2.06 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP in 43 GP with The Cubs. Chafin is a lefty pitcher who would absolutely revolutionize our bullpen. This guy will take a ton of pressure off of the over performing Aaron Loup and he’s got a top 5 mustache in sports. Chafin is also a guy who would be a player with a few months left on his contract. But the 31 year old would not require a large amount while giving much needed support to a Mets bullpen that has been overtaxed all season.
Moral of the story: BRING THE SHERIF TO QUEENS!
